How to Choose an
Insulation Contractor

The best quote is usually the one that explains scope clearly, not the one with the lowest number on the page.

Homeowners often compare attic quotes as if they all describe the same job. They rarely do. One contractor may include air sealing and attic hatch work while another only prices the insulation material.

What a Good Quote Should Spell Out

  • Existing insulation depth and condition
  • Target R-value or target final depth
  • Material type being installed
  • Whether air sealing is included
  • Whether attic access points are being insulated and weatherstripped
  • Cleanup, prep, and protection details

Questions to Ask Before You Sign

  1. What is the final target R-value for my climate zone?
  2. Are you sealing attic bypasses before adding insulation?
  3. How do you protect soffit vents and recessed fixtures?
  4. Will the quote change if the attic has hidden access or prep issues?
  5. How will you verify final depth or coverage?

Red Flags

Be careful when a quote is vague about air sealing, does not mention climate-zone targets, or promises a deep top-off without discussing attic ventilation and access details.
